Laramie Plains Lakes
|
Lake Hattie: Fishing is Fair to good. The fishing at Hattie has been steady and should fish well until the weather warms later in the year. Now is a good time to get out and chase some spring time Hattie Fatties!!!! Lures to use: Kastmasters (Silver, Perch, Blue Fox Vibrax, Colorado Spoons, Rapalas (Rainbow, Brown) Bait: Power Bait (Rainbow, Peach, Pink), Night Crawlers, Egg Sacks Flies: Chironomids, Streamers in various colors , BH Buggers (Olive, Black), Leech Patterns Meeboer: Fishing is PoorMeeboer is a great trout fishery but has been plagued by winterkill in the past, and 2011-2012 was no exception. Meeboer was recently stocked with sub-catchable trout. I'd hold off and fish one of the other plains lakes until later this fall after the stockers have had some time to grow. Lures to use: Slender Spoons, Thomas Spoons, Blue Fox Vibrax, Tasmanian Devils, Dardevles Bait: Night Crawlers, Power Bait (rainbow, red white and blue, Chartreuse, Pink), Egg Sacks Flies: Use same setup as Lake Hattie, Twin Buttes: Fishing is fair. Twin Buttes has received very little pressure from anglers lately and the fish are now a respectable size. In the past Twin Buttes has been an amazing fishery and is well on it's way to coming back. I'd definitely give Twin Buttes a shot when heading towards the plains lakes. Lures to Use: Buckshot Spoons (Rainbow, Perch), Thomas Spoons (Gold, Silver, Brown Trout), Colorado Spoons, Rapalas (Rainbow, Brown, Gold, Silver) Bait: Power Bait ( Rainbow, Chartreuse, Pink), Night Crawlers, Egg Sacks Flies: Use Same setup as Lake Hattie Gelatt: Fishing is slow to fair.Gelatt lake has turned into a great trophy trout fishery. Orange, Chartreuse, Pink), Egg Sacks Flies: Scud and Chironomid patterns, Streamers, BH Buggers (olive/black), Damsel Nymphs. Leazenby: Fishing is fair to good. Leazenby is located just 8 mi south of Laramie. Leazenby is a very small and shallow lake but has been known to produce fish in the 20"+ range. In the past Leazenby has been effected by winterkill but these last few years it has thrived. Lures to Use: Kastmasters (Perch, Gold/Red, Silver) Rapalas (Rainbow, Brook) UV Krocodiles Bait: Night Crawlers and Power Bait (Rainbow, Flo. Orange, Pink), Eggs, and Meal Worms Flies: Olive Scuds, Leech Patterns (olive, black) Copper Johns, Prince Nymphs, BH Buggers, Streamers, Chironomids, Griffiths Gnat, Mr. QTs Sodergreen: Fishing is good. Sodergreen typically fishes the best of all the plains lakes. This lake may not produce the size of fish most anglers are looking for but it can produce in numbers. The average size of fish caught out of Sodergreen is 10-14". A great place to take kids! Most fish caught are in the 8"-12" range with some brood stock going over 18". Granite is the largest of the three lakes and many people go boating out here and it is more of a recreation lake. There is an outdoor archery range, play ground and plenty of camping areas around the lake. Use same set up as North Crow Res. Crystal Res: Fishing is good. Crystal is just down the road from Granite and fishes about the same as Granite. These lakes are known for their large populations of stocker trout!!!!!
