Lake is 90% iced hot shoreline is opening up and ice looks sketch on most of the lake. A couple of open shore areas that are fishable on the southwest shore past the heat ramp. A couple diehard wind fighters out this morning in one past the walking gate.
Lake is 85% open. Only ice is on the west bank out toward the aireator 150 yards. Only concern would be the flow becoming detached and shifting in the lake. Should be a good spot to hit open water this weekend.
Lake is about 60% maybe more open. From boat ramp to south is all open to almost the other shore. Shore line is open all the way around to the road for at least 15 feet and then opens up into the whole end on west for about 30 yards.
Lake is about 50% open. East end is iced over for around 250 yards then opens up completely. Ice starts on the west end by the point on the north side then opens up again at the west end.
Road 5 miles east of the reservoir is terrible. Ice is about 24 inches thick with about 4-6 inches of snow on top. Fishing is slow-poor.
5″-8″ of ice on most but shore line is getting thin and sketchy at best. Be careful as warm weather can effect the ice quickly. Fishing has been fair.
Our team member Caleb got out to crow this week. 15″-20″ of ice. Fishing was Fair to Good. Mostly smaller in size but fun to catch.

Fishing is fair. Ice is 8″-14″ on most of the lake with some open spots due to wind east of the “houses” in the bay and on the west end. Green & red jigs with meal worms, red power bait, spawn sacks.

Talked with a couple people that snowmobiled in to Lake Owen yesterday. Fishing was great, 18″-20″ of ice. If your up to the adventure to get there the alpine lakes can be amazing to ice fish.
Thanks to Shawn for the report Here is a fishing report from 1/19/20 Ice was 13-14 inches thick and it was a slow day. We landed 4 nice fish but we typically land 6-12 fish a day at Alsop. We used everything from Powerbait to tubes to Kastmasters and Rapalas. All the fish came on Powerbait.

From our friends at the Lake John Resort. Lake John = fully capped with 3”-4” of ice. Roads accessible with some drifting near the edges. The further from shore you get the thinner the ice still. Lots of anglers fishing this lake and doing well right now. Pictures attached. North Delaney = 25% open water to 3” of ice at about 20ft from shore. Near the damn 6” of ice. South Delaney = 50% open water to 3” of ice at about 30ft from shore near the north end bottleneck. East Delaney = capped with 2.5”- 5” of ice. 2.5” of ice at about 30ft from shore before the boat ramp. 5” straight out form the boat ramp. Deep snow 150 yards from the boat ramp making it hard to access. Cowdrey = capped with 6” of ice. Please remember these conditions and ice are changing by the hour with wind, snow and sun. We also have cabins and a suite available if you are wanting to stay out at the lake! Please visit our website at lakejohnresort.com for more information and call us for a reservation.

Forest Service partners with University of Wyoming; volunteers needed for Public Lands Day events on September 28 (LARAMIE, Wyo.) September 18, 2019 – The Laramie Ranger District has partnered with multiple groups, including the University of Wyoming (UW), to hold local volunteer events on National and Wyoming Public Lands Day, Saturday, Sept. 28. Billed as the largest single-day volunteer effort for America’s public lands, the day highlights the importance of public lands nationally and in Wyoming, as well as acknowledging the multiple uses of public lands. Volunteers are needed to assist with three events near Laramie on that day, one of which will be held on the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest. Working under an agreement with Common Outdoor Ground (COG), two old sections of the Aspen Trail on Pole Mountain will be rehabilitated, due to new reroutes. COG will also lead a clean-up event in Roger Canyon north east of Laramie on a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) managed section. Under Laramie BikeNet’s direction, new trail will be constructed on the state section east of Laramie, referred to as the Schoolyard. The service day is a product of the University of Wyoming’s Service, Leadership and Community Engagement office, the UW Outdoor Program, Wyoming Conservation Corps, COG, Laramie BikeNet, Wyoming Pathways, the BLM, and the Forest Service. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. in front of the Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center’s northeast corner, near the Outdoor Program entrance. From that location, groups will head out to their respective work sites. This full-day event includes transportation if needed (carpooling also encouraged), food, tools, work gloves (please bring them if you have your own), and representatives who will help facilitate the work-day. Volunteers should wear closed toe shoes and bring water. Long sleeve shirts and pants are recommended. Most project work should be completed by 2 p.m. Doughnuts and lunch will be provided for volunteers. Those who wish to help naturalize the Aspen Trail should anticipate a short hike to get to the work site. UW students and staff interested in the event can register through UW Connect. Community members can register on Eventbrite. A Facebook event page is also live. Common Outdoor Ground is a community organization providing volunteer support for sustainability of outdoor spaces in southeast Wyoming. COG has an agreement with the Laramie Ranger District to help coordinate volunteers and resources for multiple work days and events in 2019. The Pole Mountain unit is a focus area for trails work within the Medicine Bow National Forest. For more information on the Pole Mountain unit, contact the Laramie Ranger District at (307) 745-2300, 2468 Jackson St. in Laramie.
